AI prompts for deposition transcripts

Use a deposition transcript as a record to navigate, not a story to embellish. Start with the complete transcript and its page-line numbering, ask for a narrow work product, then return to the cited question and answer before using any finding.

Report a correction

General workflow orientation, not legal advice or a jurisdiction-specific procedure. AI can still omit, distort, or invent material.

A verification-first process

  1. Preserve the transcript’s coordinates

Keep page and line numbers, speaker labels, exhibit references, and any errata visible. If the source has only timestamps, state that explicitly instead of inventing page-line coordinates.

  2. Choose one transcript task

Separate summary, admission extraction, contradiction review, outline drafting, and designation review. A narrower assignment makes omissions and category mistakes easier to detect.

  3. Require the supporting exchange

Ask for the relevant question and answer, not an isolated sentence. A quotation can be accurate while the characterization around it is not.

  4. Verify before reuse

Open every cited location in the certified transcript, read enough surrounding testimony to restore context, and confirm the speaker, exhibit, and any correction.

Use transcript-native citations

  • Prefer page:line or page:line-range when the certified transcript provides it.
  • For timestamped recordings, preserve the source name and timestamp and label it as a recording citation.
  • Quote only text that appears at the cited location; keep paraphrase and quotation visibly distinct.
  • Write “not found in the record” when the source does not support an item instead of supplying a likely answer.

Human verification checklist

  • The page and line range exists in the source.
  • The quoted words, speaker, and question-answer context match.
  • Errata, objections, and exhibit references that affect meaning are included.
  • The output does not convert uncertainty into an admission or conclusion.

Prompts for this record

Prompt library

Run these prompts on your own deposition transcripts.

Ask your files opens the record in this browser and searches it with source cites. CasePrompts Pro (private beta) runs the full prompt on the whole file in the cloud, and accepts case files only after a Zero Data Retention agreement is in place.

Before using a third-party model, review how data leaves the browser. For the prompt framework and its limits, read the CITE guide and editorial methodology.
